В заснеженных Альпах, на самой границе между Германией и Австрией, полиция находит труп мужчины. При осмотре выясняется: мужчину приволокли сюда уже мертвым, у него поддельные документы, а в руках - хвост из конского волоса. Расследовать загадочное преступление берутся два детектива из соседствующих стран.rnОна - жизнелюбивая немка Элли Стокер, которая пытается делать свою жуткую работу легко. Он - мрачный алкоголик Гедеон Винтер, оказавшийся на самом дне жизни. Вдвоем они включаются в расследование, которое все больше напоминает опасную игру, затеянную маньяком-убийцей, - и заодно демонстрируют, как важно при всей разности темпераментов и образов жизни держаться вместе.
