Краткий обзор фильма:
Сериал, действия которого происходят в XIX столетии в Лондоне, собирает в себе множество героев из произведений Чарльза Диккенса. Сюжет разделён на несколько переплетающихся между собой историй. Первая рассказывает о семье Хэвишем. Молодая девушка Амелия после смерти отца наследует весь его бизнес, что вызывает бурю негодования у её брата Артура, который рассчитывал получить свою долю. Вторая расскажет об инспекторе Бакете, который расследует убийство одного из героев. В третьей героиня узнаёт, что её младшая сестра Гонория тайно встречается с капитаном Джеймсом Хаудоном, который просаживает все свои деньги в азартные игры. Четвертая расскажет о жизни бедного, но благодарного за всё, что у них есть, семейства Кретчетов. А пятая - о жизни маленькой Нелл и её дедушке, который увлечен азартными играми.
