Краткий обзор фильма:
1959 год. Хильда Мюллер в день собственной свадьбы оставляет жениха Жуку и уходит в бордель на «Улице Красных Фонарей» в Белу Оризонтэ. Реакционные круги города решают бороться с проституцией и закрыть бордель. В ход идут как политические интриги, так и организованные демонстрации. Молодой послушник Фрей Малтус возглавляет крестный ход и намерен изгнать из Хильды дьявола. Однако от ненависти до любви - один шаг... История Хильды, Малтуса и их запретной любви разворачивается на фоне политических событий Бразилии 1959-1964 годов.
