Краткий обзор фильма:
Джейн Кеннеди возвращается в родной город. Здесь она провела детство и юность, но возвратилась не за воспоминаниями. Ее, опытного адвоката, назначают коронером по загадочному делу молодого человека, якобы покончившего жизнь самоубийством. Причину смерти парня Джейн сразу же ставит под сомнение и начинает вести расследование. Ей приходится работать со свидетелями и уликами, но сложнее всего героине дается общение с близкими погибшего. Джейн, принимающая близко к сердцу утраты других, старается как можно скорее раскрыть дело. Однако она должна успевать следить не только за карьерой, но и за дочкой Бет, которая ночами пропадает со своими сверстниками, заставляя мать переживать еще больше. А когда выясняется, что знакомые Бет могут быть связаны с гибелью парня, расследование переворачивается с ног на голову.
