После убийства возлюбленного бедная юная Тереса Мендоса была вынуждена покинуть родную Мексику и затеряться в Техасе. Вскоре, оценив ум и предприимчивость девушки, ее приглашает к себе местная наркобаронесса Камила. Она намерена разрушить бизнес своего мужа дона Эпифанио руками гостьи, но Тереса слишком умна, чтобы стать пешкой в чьей-то игре. В США у неординарной мексиканки начинается совершенно новая жизнь, ведь она понимает, что и сама много смыслит в торговле запрещенными веществами и является гораздо более прагматичной и расчетливой, нежели ее боссы. Полезные люди помогают Мендосе войти в этот бизнес, и она сначала осторожно, а потом все смелее начинает восходить по лестнице, усыпанной первосортным кокаином. Так, поднявшись с самого дна, главная героиня заполучает целый мир. Виртуозно манипулируя друзьями и врагами, конкурентами и коллегами, полицией и своими мужчинами, успевая повсюду и никогда не оставляя улик, молодая, сильная, уверенная в себе Тереса Мендоса занимает трон Королевы Юга.
