Краткий обзор фильма:
1950-е. Вторая мировая внесла свои коррективы и теперь в больницы в качестве медсестер принимают мужчин. Эрик и Анна — одни из первых, поступивших в медицинскую школу, где мужчины и женщины обучаются вместе. Им придется адаптироваться к суровой среде, где далеко не все рады новым мерам, а также найти общий язык не только с коллегами, но и весьма консервативно настроенными пациентами.

Fredenslund is being renovated, and Ms. Madsen is very unhappy about all the noise. A routine surgery goes mysteriously wrong - to Dr. Neumann and Anna's great dismay and surprise. While Nina tries to hide how far along she is in her pregnancy, Bent tries to come up with names for the baby. An old friend of the Matron is admitted, but he doesn't want the Matron to know.

After a month in the radium department, Marie finally returns to wing B exhausted - along with Bjørn, no less. But her happiness is short-lived, as Ms. Madsen intervenes to send Marie back to the radium department, where her health begins to deteriorate. Bjørn goes to extreme measures to help her. Birgit is ready to return to work as a stewardess, but things don't go according to plan. And Ruth feels passed over, while the Matron starts to question whether she made the right decision.

Else is put in charge of a young girl suffering from abdominal pain, and looks on in envy as the girl is showered with gifts from an American soldier. So when an opportunity presents itself, Else helps herself to the spoils. Dr. Friis' parents come for a visit, but leave both Dr. Friis and Lis feeling hurt. The Matron is in love with Klaus, but since he is still a patient, they can't spend any time together. Finally, Ole plans a surprise for Anna for her birthday
