Действие новозеландского криминально-драматического сериала «Вестсайд» с элементами трагикомедии начинает свое развитие в 1974 году, когда в мире происходит немало серьезных изменений. Не становится исключением и Новая Зеландия. Окленд, крупнейший город страны, полностью погружается в расцвет музыкальной субкультуры. Повсюду появляются рейдеры, а улицы, несмотря на увеличение количества автомобилей, все еще кажутся тихими и спокойными. В этих условиях существуют главные герои. К ним должна приспособиться и девушка по имени Рита, которая выходит из тюрьмы. Она возвращается в родные края, надеясь начать вести тихую и спокойную жизнь. Однако, когда она оказывается у дома, то обнаруживает его в плохом состоянии. В это же время поблизости ухудшается криминогенная ситуация. Кроме того, героине приходится бросить вызов человеку, который имеет больше шансов на победу, чем она. А в это время несколько человек хотят купить поблизости землю, но из-за произвола получают отказ. Однако они не собираются сдаваться.
