Выпускница полицейской школы Джина Доусон попадает по распределению в полицейский участок Бринфорда. На дворе конец 50-х, и в полиции, как и повсюду в обществе, процветает мужской шовинизм, расизм, коррупция и крутые нравы. Поначалу бравые офицеры полицейского подразделения отказываются принимать всерьёз юную, хорошенькую, слегка наивную коллегу, поглядывая на неё снисходительно и с долей иронии. Джине придётся вынести немало насмешек и издевательств, не раз доказывать свою профпригодность, отстаивать права задержанных, ввязываясь в нелёгкое противостояние с представителями сильного пола.
